Endless Flight

by Brian S. Lingard

Flying higher into the sky,
Up above the glistening sea,
At that moment, I stopped.
And I looked at the earth.
And I realized what it was worth.

To be alive
Is not to eat,
     Or sleep,
     Or fight to survive.
It is to learn.
Learn things greater than death.

I flew higher and higher
Into the darker parts of heaven,
Until I could go no more.
I looked down and saw a sight
Which ended my endless flight.
