Welcome to the Shrewsbury Genealogy Club!

Please check out the news page and the meeting schedule for any recent updates. In case of bad weather, you may want to call George about any meeting cancellations.

You can find some links to club member home pages, and also a handy events calendar. We have also begun to post some useful documents and maintain a useful links page.

Please be sure to also visit the Shrewsbury Genealogy Club's Blog.

Contact us if you are interested in helping out with any aspect of this web site or have links to suggest. If you wish to join the club, just come to a meeting.

Next meeting is on Mar. 28, 2011 at 7:00 PM.

Just Getting Started?

Some recommended books are shown below, these books and others related to genealogy are available within the Shrewsbury Public Library under 929.1.

  • Unpuzzling Your Past: A Basic Guide to Tracking Your Family's Genealogy, by Emily Anne Croom (4th ed., Betterway Publications, 2001) - excellent beginner's guide with enough detail to keep you busy locating new sources for many years.
  • Uncovering Your Ancestry through Family Photographs, by Maureen A. Taylor (Betterway Books, 2000) - a thorough guide to identifying and preserving old photographs, and understanding how they can help add life to your family history project.
  • Writing Family Histories and Memoirs, by Kirk Polking (Betterway Books, 1995) - a great guide to recording your family's history in words, with helpful tips on organizing your research, and what the options are to publish your story.

Also check out the following web sites -- RootsWeb, FamilySearch, and Cyndi's List -- each of these have excellent "getting started" tutorials.
