Genealogy, by Emily Anne Croom (4th ed., Betterway Publications,
2001) - excellent beginner's guide with enough detail to keep
you busy locating new sources for many years.
Uncovering Your Ancestry through Family Photographs, by
Maureen A. Taylor (Betterway Books, 2000) - a thorough guide to
identifying and preserving old photographs, and understanding how
they can help add life to your family history project.
Writing Family Histories and Memoirs, by Kirk Polking
(Betterway Books, 1995) - a great guide to recording your
family's history in words, with helpful tips on organizing your
research, and what the options are to publish your story.
