Hello, just a quick update to mention that the old email address that I've been using of editorNO@SPAMdarktreepress.com has been replaced with darktreepressNO@SPAMyahoo.com. The old address relied on a forwarding facility provided by my website hosting company, but it has been getting hammered by email spammers for the last 6 months or more, and apparently Yahoo's spam filter doesn't do a particularly good job when you are getting forwarded email. So I've decided to no longer use the forwarding feature and will now use a dedicated email address directly for all email communication. If this doesn't help curb the tide of spam, I will be forced to switch email services away from Yahoo. So as of today, the email forwarding will be disabled and you will need to use the new email address as noted above and on the "about" page. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Hello everyone! Winter is still grinding along here in snowy New England. Things have been moving a bit more slowly than I had hoped, my day job is taking up most of my spare time.

Black Satellite #7 is about 80% complete and should be at the printers by the end of March.

Mythos Collector #7 has been delayed until about May/June 2006.

04/27/2005

Black Satellite #6 has finally been printed. Subscription and contributor copies will be mailed out by the end of the week. The ordering page has been updated, though the "submit" button is still broken. Hopefully dealers will also soon have copies available for sale.

04/11/2005

A quick note to announce that all publications are still closed to submissions. They will remain closed until at least June 30, 2005.

The Dark Trees anthology is also closed to submissions. I am in the process of deciding whether to proceed with this project further.

01/05/2005

Just a quick note to say that I have recently moved the hosting of this site to new quarters. Hopefully everything is working correctly including the order form. Please let me know if you have any troubles.

11/30/2004

Howdy folks. Got several bits of news and updates.

Black Satellite #6 has been put together and is now pending being printed. Unfortunately my printer went out of business and I am trying to find someone else who can do the job properly. Hopefully it will get printed within a couple of weeks. Stay tuned.

The biggest news is that I am closing to submissions until March 31, 2005. I have far too many items in the slush pile and they have been there far too long. I will be getting through all submissions before I accept new ones.

So Black Satellite is definitely closed to further submissions. Mythos Collector is also closed but you can query me to see if you have something that I could use. In particular, I do have a need for material related to Clark Ashton Smith for a special issue, this material could include fiction, poetry, articles, or anything else you can think of. Please query if you think that you might have something.

06/20/2004

Hi folks. It's been far too long between updates. Mythos Collector #6 has finally been printed and is now available. It features an interesting interview with Peter Scartabello of Yuggoth Records, and my long delayed piece on Lovecraftian audio recordings.

Black Satellite has also been long delayed but issue #6 should be coming out by the end of July. Note that BS #4 has recently sold out.

For those who still need back issues of either magazine, I'm now holding a clearance sale on BS #1 thru #3 and MC #1 thru #4 where each back issue has been reduced to $3.00. This lower price will remain in place until the issues sell out.

Note that all publications are closed to submissions during July and August. All will re-open as of September 2004.

12/21/2003

Howdy folks. Just a quick note to announce that Tim Curran's new chapbook - Dead Planets, Unhallowed Stars - is now available. Just in time for Christmas! Be sure to order your copy early since it will be limited to only 100 copies.

10/28/2003

Hello again. Circumstances are beginning to improve, but we are still closed to submissions until Jan 2004. The good news is that the long awaited next issue of Black Satellite (#5) is now available, featuring a great new story by Tim Curran.

Speaking of Tim Curran, his chapbook, Dead Planets, Unhallowed Stars, will be coming out by Nov/Dec 2003. Be sure to order your copy early since it will be limited to only 100 copies.

The next issue of Mythos Collector (#6) will be coming out by Jan 2004. It will feature an interview with Peter Scartabello of Yuggoth Records, an article on Lovecraftian audio recordings, and Mythos fiction by Tim Curran and Phil Roberts.

08/16/2003

Howdy folks. Unfortunately, circumstances have forced me to close to submissions until at least Jan 2004. All submissions in hand will be returned to their respective authors. Work previously accepted for publication will be retained unless the author requests a release from the contract. Work that was accepted but not having a contract will be handled on a case by case basis with each author.

All upcoming publication projects are also delayed. Back issues will still be available for sale via this web site or through any of the dealers carrying Dark Tree Press publications.

04/16/2003

Howdy folks. It's been in the 80's yesterday and today, but since this is New England such warm breaks never last long. Alas wintry cold returns tomorrow.

Mythos Collector #5 is now available. It features an interview with the great UK horror writer Graham Masterton! Also featured is an interview with Mythos scribe C. J. Henderson, an article on collecting in the U.K., and two great pieces of Mythos fiction by Paul Pinn and Michael Penncavage. The article on Lovecratian computer games has been postponed to a future issue.

Issue #5 of Black Satellite will be available by May/June 2003. It's got fiction lined up from James R. Cain, Bill Wilson, Tom Olbert, Lee Clark Zumpe, and a killer story from Tim Curran. Upcoming issues will have stories by Darrell Pitt, Albert J. Manachino, Tim Curran, and Bonnie McDaniel.

02/04/2003

Howdy folks. It's the middle of winter here in New England and at least this week has been a bit warmer. Our cold snap of the last two weeks seems to be finally over. In fact, I think I saw some snow melting today...

Issue #4 of Black Satellite is now available. The latest issue is jammed packed with fiction and has blossomed to 56 pages of startling fiction. This issue also features a previously unpublished collaboration between Albert J. Manachino and Michael E. Ambrose, and a poem by the talented Kendall Evans. Be sure to look for Mr. Manachino's latest book The Box Hunters just published Ambrose's Argo Press.

Mythos Collector issue #5 will be out by late Feb or early March. It will feature an interview with the great UK horror writer Graham Masterton! Also featured will be an interview with Mythos scribe C. J. Henderson, an article on collecting in the U.K., and a piece on collecting Lovecraftian computer games.

12/29/2002

Hello everyone. This is just a quick update to let people know that what I have planned next year for chapbooks, and to announce that I am now accepting submissions for a new weird horror anthology chapbook called "Dark Tree Tales". Also Black Satellite #4 is still on schedule to be released in Jan 2003. Stay tuned for more updates!

11/26/2002

Howdy folks. It's the day before Turkey day and we here in the Northeast spent a couple hours this morning digging out from the first real snow storm of the season. Some people have complained about it being to early for snow, but it doesn't bother me, having grown up in New Hampshire. I'm used to it.

Though somewhat later than I intended, Mythos Collector issue #4 has now become available. It features interviews the great small press artist Allen Koszowski, and comics artist legend Bernie Wrightson! Issue #5 is expected to come out around Feb/Mar 2003 and will feature an interview with the great UK horror writer Graham Masterton!

Issue #3 of Black Satellite is still available. Issue #4 will be a little later than planned, I will it out by Jan 2003. Upcoming issues will begin to see the gradual shift in contents to more of a science fiction focus (see the submission guidelines for details). The intent is to feature mostly startling, strange, weird, and terrifying science fiction. I intend to occasionally publish a weird horror story or two, but only if it truly strikes my fancy.

For a limited time, the price for a one year subscription to either magazine has been reduced to only $10.00 for 3 issues. These prices are only available to US subscribers. I'll even throw in a special deal to those who read this -- subscribe or renew to one year of both Mythos Collector and Black Satellite for only $18.00! (that's a savings of $6.00 off the regular subscription price). Simply send an email with your order request, or use the ordering form.

Mythos Collector and Black Satellite are available through the Project Pulp web site. Project Pulp allows readers to order many small press publications simultaneously and pay for them via a credit card. Mythos Collector and Black Satellite are now also available at Matt Schwartz's Shocklines and at David Wynn's Mythos Books. And the newest dealer to carry both publications is Daniel J. Bishop's Golden City Comics in Toronto.

Please consult my updated submission guidelines if you'd like to submit something. In particular, I am looking for more artwork submissions. Especially interior illustrations. If you are an under-published artist looking for more exposure, please give me a try.

09/24/2002

Howdy folks. The kids are back at school, a slight chill is in the air, I guess that means summer is now over. Personally, fall has always been my favorite season. I enjoy the crisp days and nights, and all the colorful leaves.

Though a little late, issue #3 of Black Satellite has just become available. Issue #4 will hopefully be released in time for Xmas 2002.

Mythos Collector issue #4 is currently scheduled for release by Oct 2002 and will feature an interview with the dean of small press art Allen Koszowski and an interview with comics great Bernie Wrightson! Issue #5 is expected to come out around Jan/Feb 2003 and will feature an interview with the great UK horror writer Graham Masterton!

I have now decided to begin using a form letter for story rejections. I really hated to do this but it is the only way that I will have any hope to stay caught up on submissions. I will still try to give some personal feedback wherever possible. Also note that I am now willing to accept emailed submissions but they must follow a few simple rules. I prefer RTF attachments over any other kind of submission. Placing your story within the body of the email is okay as long as the formatting isn't messed up. Also the attached submission should still look like a normal manuscript when printed out. Otherwise, I may reject it immediately, with a request to follow proper formats.

07/16/2002

Howdy folks. Just returned recently from a summer family vacation trip to the lakes region of New Hampshire. Everyone had a good time despite the hot and humid weather. We stayed in a nice little cottage near Newfound Lake that had no AC and only got one television channel (poorly at that).

Mythos Collector issue #3 is now available. Contributor copies and subs will be mailed within a week or so. Issue #4 is currently scheduled for release by Sep/Oct 2002 and will feature an interview with the dean of small press art Allen Koszowski. Issue #5 is expected to come out around Jan/Feb 2003 and will feature an interview with the great horror writer Graham Masterton!

By the end of August, issue #3 of Black Satellite should become available. Issue #4 will hopefully be released in time for Xmas 2002.

These prices are only available to US subscribers, who are subscribing for the first time or who are renewing an existing subscription. I'll even throw in a special deal to those who read this -- subscribe or renew to one year of both Mythos Collector and Black Satellite for only $18.00! (that's a savings of $6.00 off the regular subscription price). Simply send an email with your order request, or use the ordering form.

I have now completed reading nearly everything in my submission stack. I still need to respond to all the manuscripts and hope to have them done by end of July. If any author wishes to withdraw a submission, I'll understand. Just send me a note or an email requesting the withdrawal.

04/21/2002

Hello again. This is just a quick update. Black Satellite issue #2 was a little delayed but is now available. Contributor copies and subs will be mailed within a week or so. Issue #3 is virtually full and will be coming out mid to late summer 2002.

Issues #1 and #2 of Mythos Collector are still available. Issue #3 was scheduled for May 2002 but will be delayed to no later than June 2002.

I am beginning to make a dent in the submission stack. I plan to respond to all manuscripts in my possession by the end of May (hence the delay on Mythos Collector). If any author wishes to withdraw a submission, I'll understand. Just send me a note or an email requesting the withdrawal.

02/11/2002

Greetings! Issue #2 of Mythos Collector has just become available. Subscription copies and contributor copies will be going out into the mail very soon. Back issues of issue #1 are also still available. Issue #3 is currently scheduled to appear in May 2002 and still is open to submissions. Upcoming issues will feature interviews with W. Paul Ganley, S.T. Joshi, and Allen Koszowski; artwork galleries; articles of Lovecraftian computer games, audio recordings, fanzines, pulp magazines, and more.

I will be focusing most of my attention over the coming weeks reading and responding to submissions. I will also be putting together issue #2 of Black Satellite and getting it printed by the end of March. Note that issue #3 is filling fast, so most new submissions would be targeted to a later issue.

I wish to repeat my apology from a few weeks ago about taking so long responding to submissions. I will get through the stack as soon as I can, even if it means delaying working on new issues by a month or so. If any author wishes to withdraw a submission, I'll understand. Just send me a note or an email requesting the withdrawal.

01/03/2002

Happy New Year! Let's hope this year sees less tragedy than last year.

Issue #1 of Black Satellite is still available. Issue #2 will be out by March 2002. Issue #3 is filling fast, so most new submissions would be targeted to a later issue.

Issue #1 of Mythos Collector is also still available. Issue #2 has been delayed by the Xmas holiday and will now appear by the end of January 2002. Issue #3 is still open to submissions.

I wish to apologize to all those authors who have been waiting a while to hear from me about their submissions. I have recently sent out about a dozen responses and hope to get another dozen out very soon. If any author wishes to withdraw a submission, I'll understand. Just send me a note or an email requesting the withdrawal.

11/24/2001

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope you have all had a happy and safe holiday season so far. Only 34 shopping days until Christmas! Remember that Dark Tree Press publications make excellent gifts.

The first issue of Black Satellite is now available and ready for shipping. The contributers will be getting their copies within a week or so. See the ordering page for details on how to get your very own copy. Issue #2 is already full and hopefully will be out by February 2002. Issue #3 is filling fast, so most new submissions would be targeted to a later issue.

The first issue of Mythos Collector is still available. A special thanks to all who have ordered single copies and/or have subscribed. Issue #2 is scheduled to appear in December 2001. Issue #3 is still open to submissions.

I wish to apologize to all those authors who have been waiting a while to hear from me about their submissions. I am doing my level best to get through the stack as quickly as possible. I hope to be caught up with all submissions by Xmas. If any author wishes to withdraw a submission, I'll understand. Just send me a note or an email requesting the withdrawal.

09/27/2001

The world has seen a devastating tragedy in recent weeks. Personally, I send the kindest regards and hope for all of those affected by the events in New York and Washington, D.C. I am patiently waiting to see what comes next, and fully support whatever the United States government decides must be done.

In the meantime, I have a publishing operation to keep on track. The first issue of Mythos Collector is now available. See the ordering page for details on how to get your very own copy. Issue #2 is nearly full and should appear in December 2001.

I have now turned my attention to getting the first issue of Black Satellite completed. It will be in print by the end of October 2001. The second issue is filling fast (hopefully will be out by February 2002).

I had hoped to have a review of NecronomiCon 5 in this news update, but just haven't had the time to write one up. I have noticed that several reviews have appeared on usenet -- alt.horror.cthulhu. I still plan to write something up and post a few of the photos that I took at the convention.

08/12/2001

Well, NecronomiCon 5 is only days away and I plan to have brand spanking new copies of Mythos Collector issue #1 in hand at the convention. I will be giving away a few copies to the first few people that I meet. So look me up and you might get a free issue! Issue #2 is nearly full and should appear around November/December 2001.

Now I can turn my attention to getting the first issue of Black Satellite ready for publication, hopefully by early Fall 2001 (October most likely). The first issue is now full and the second issue is filling fast.

My next news update will have my brief review of the NecronomiCon convention. I will also be announcing a couple of new projects for 2002, so stay tuned...

03/08/2001

It's been a while since I updated things around here. I've been busy reading the submissions I've received since posting my market listings on several web sites and in the February 2001 issue of Scavenger's Newsletter. So far I have received several great submissions and many decent ones.

If all goes well, I am now expecting to get the first issue of Mythos Collector out by Summer 2001, hopefully just before the NecronomiCon 5 convention. The first issue of Black Satellite will be a little bit later, hopefully by early Fall 2001.

You may have noticed on the main page that I have joined a couple of small press web rings. Hopefully these will help generate a little more traffic to this site. If anyone knows of other web rings that may be appropriate, please drop me some email.

12/14/2000

I have decided to rename Lovecraft Comic Collector to Mythos Collector since this will allow me a wider scope. I have begun to advertise in a few selected market listings for writers and artists submissions. Even with everything that is going on at home, I am still hoping to get a first issue out in early Spring 2001. The first issue of Black Satellite will hopefully follow a few months later.

10/24/2000

Welcome to the debut of the Dark Tree Press web site. I'm still getting things organized and preparing the first issue of Lovecraft Comic Collector. This has been a long time coming. I first began on this effort almost a year ago. Many things over the last year slowed me down -- new baby, home projects, etc.
